MORANDI e LA CONTEMPORANEITA'
MORANDI E LA CONTEMPORANEITÀ
Milan, Palazzo Bagatti Valsecchi
Via Santo Spirito, 7
From 13 October to 20 December 2023
A project conceived two years ago and now realised thanks to the willing complicity of many private loaners, collectors and indeed the contemporary artists we have called in, Joan Crous and Andrea Federici, admirers, like all of us, of the great master Giorgio Morandi; Bolognese, like us.
MORANDI, CROUS, FEDERICI: A CONCERT OF THREE VOICES*.
This exhibition which interleaves the works of such a classic artist of the Italian Novecento as Giorgio Morandi with two masters of contemporary art, namely, Joan Crous and Andrea Federici, could actually be visualized as a concerto. Like a trio of the best Baroque tradition, in which the main voice or theme sees the grafting on, at artfully established points, of a second and then a third melody, different from each other but still evoking the main theme. Then seemingly miraculously
(but in reality thanks to great technical expertise), the three different melodic lines blend into an
effect of compact unity and sublime harmony.
Just like this exhibition.
The main voice is that of Giorgio Morandi (1890-1964), whose “cantus firmus” is represented by a small but significant core of canvases, drawings and engravings. (...) The time is ripe to graft on the second voice, that of Joan Crous (1962), a sculptor who works with glass using a very original technique. (...) The third voice is unambiguously in a major key. “Singing it” is Andrea Federici (1957) as he arranges bowls, plates, bottles, spheres and fruit with refined order on the “stave” of his creativity. (...)
One last aspect must not be overlooked: SILENCE. A fundamental and necessary dimension to attune oneself to the works proposed in this exhibition.
