Fior di Barba: Opening | Paris |
"Fior di Barba" is the curious and unusual exhibition dedicated to the topic of the beard in art.
The result of long and passionate research, all the artworks have a common link: the beard and its role over the centuries.
In preparing this exhibition and investigating the reasons behind and hidden in the beards of the characters in my works, I discovered how purely aesthetic choices are intertwined with historical events that for the most part heralded major changes. Iconographic and written sources teach us how the approach to the honour of the chin has marked important passages in history.
I therefore wondered whether in today's men's faces, among the men who absent-mindedly sport two-day-old hairs, bold goatees or bristly, wild beards, we might not read an involuntary reflection of this moment of transition and profound mutations.
The changes in the beard mark every man's life, from black to brown, then grey and then white... A story that is not only personal, but which all men share universally.
